輪框的主要功能為提高輪胎胎唇與輪框之間的受力，並提高氣密效果。一般來說，寬的輪框與輪胎配合能為車子帶來更好的操控性，但直徑大的輪框與輪胎配合的話，則可能增加車子的非簧載質量。
